I've become an accidental political activist, proving that even the fat, plain-looking SAHM's can make a difference. I've worked on issues such as privacy, taxes, the draft and most recently was the state coordinator for a presidential campaign. (If you're curious, you can Google my name with one of those issues.) During the last 12+ yrs, I've done campaigning for issues across the state while hugely ("big as a barn" according to one kind soul :D ) pregnant, with a nursing baby and with three small children in tow. (This is how crazy it can be: I was putting on my makeup for a TV interview while doing a recorded interview on the phone for PBS's "NOW with Bill Moyers". I've done dozens of radio and newspaper interviews while washing the dishes or fixing dinner. Thank heavens for cordless headsets!) Now my 16yo is getting involved, so I guess I've done something right. It's fun and fulfilling and if I can do it, anyone can.
Even though I'm on the road a lot, my heart is with my husband, three boys and our small home that sits on 4 acres in the middle of the prairie. Our nearest neighbor is 1 mi away and we're 25 mi from Fargo, ND. The view of the stars out here is breathtaking--I wish all you who took Mr. Mettler's astronomy class could see this. And you should see the northern lights and sun dogs here!
I love to garden--lots of flowers, veggies, fruit trees and berry bushes. I share my love for astronomy with my boys and teach it to Boy Scouts. We all enjoy bicycling--it's so flat here, so this fat, almost 50-yr can handle it.
